Anyone involved in Marketing will tell you that colours talk to people. Yes colour has its own language that lies deep in our subconscious,  just as symbols, colours are a global language and one that is usually inherited as apposed to learnt. Usually inherited as some are born colour blind, which means they see colours differently due to receptors on the optic nerve not working or working differently.

So how do colours speak to us and what examples can we give. Well if you have ever had to set up a sensory room for someone with behavioural difficulties you will will know all about this. On the other hand if you watch countless decorating programmes the rudiments of colours are a repeated topic. But for more day to day examples one can just look in their shopping basket. Products are sometimes defined by their colours.  



Power and Ego (Yellow)

Grounding and survival (Red)

Physical and spiritual connection (Blue)

Love, sense of responsibility (Green)

Emotions, sexuality (Orange)

Forgiveness, compassion, understanding (Indigo)

Connection with universal energies, transmission of ideas and information (Violet)

Red and Yellow a tried and tested combination showing, ‘Power and Survival’.

Blue logo for spiritual and physical connection, with Orange for sexuality

Green for sense of responsibility

Indigo and violet

Forgiveness, compassion, connection with universal energies.

The colour meaning of turquoise is communication and clarity of mind.

It can also be impractical and idealistic.

The colour brown is a serious, down-to-earth colour signifying stability, structure and support.

The meaning of the colour pink is unconditional love and nurturing.

The colour of detachment, indecision and compromise

When symbols and colours are produced together they can make for a powerful message (see also blog on symbols)

The irony with colour is particularly noticeable within the human race,  we have used it as a vehicle for enslavement and prejudice. Which is particularly stupid of us especially as colour  in its pure form, doesn’t exist.

Its just how the brain deciphers wave patterns form  photon beams based on our receptors, SO WHY ALL THE FUSS??
